There are a number of evidence-based methods for making quality improvements in health care.


The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) uses the Model for Improvement as the guiding improvement framework. In addition to providing information about the Model for Improvement, the IHI site provides a wealth of information and tools about healthcare improvement initiatives, including information about the ‘Triple Aim’ – concurrent efforts to improve the patient experience of care, improve the health of populations, and reduce the per capita cost of health care.
A lean organization understands customer value and focuses its key process to continuously increase it. The ultimate goal is to provide perfect value to the customer through a perfect value creation process that has zero waste.
Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach for eliminating defects in any process. This is accomplished through the use of two sub-methodologies: Define Measure Analyze Improve Control (DMAIC) and Define Measure Analyze Design Verify (DMADV).
